“Cherokee War Chant” aka Cheeko. 17hh Thoroughbred gelding, 6 years old. Cheeko has been lightly restarted since the racetrack and has had lots of downtime in the field with friends. He is the bottom of the pecking order and has been living out 24/7, gets along well with other horses. Cheeko was retired sound from the track after not showing a whole lot of interest in racing anymore. Since then, he’s been treated for ulcers and started back under saddle. Cheeko has gone to Campbell Valley Park a handful of times for trail rides and has been great. Has been ridden quite a bit by my adult amateur mother and she loves him. He is still green, however, so requires a confident rider with experience with OTTBs or someone working in a program with a trainer. He will make an amazing show horse for someone patient that is willing to get him a little stronger in his flat foundation with relaxation and suppleness (as he has a tendency to be high headed sometimes) prior to seriously starting him over fences or expecting him to show. He has been ridden over a couple of small jumps here or there and has done poles. He is very brave. He is coming along great but will benefit from some more time to put on muscle and get stronger in work that’s not track work, so if you’re looking for something to start showing immediately, he is not your guy.
Cheeko is sensitive and responsive but sensible and kind. He loves people, is easy to catch and handle. Very sweet. Would be a fun horse for a junior in a program to work with alongside their trainer. He is safe enough for a competent junior provided they’re used to green horses.
Asking $3,500 CAD. Cheeko is located in Langley, BC. Price subject to increase with training as he will stay in a program until sold.
